Established in 2005 by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou, Space Copenhagen is a multidisciplinary design studio operating at the intersection of furniture, lighting, refined objects, art installations, art direction, and interior design for private residences, hotels, and restaurants worldwide.
The studio defines its approach as Poetic Modernism—a pursuit of balance between opposites: classic and contemporary, industrial and organic, sculptural and minimal, light and shade. Duality and contrast are central, driven by curiosity as a fundamental human impulse.
Space Copenhagen’s work is shaped by context, functional needs, and a deep understanding of human behavior. Their designs embrace a slow aesthetic, prioritizing craftsmanship, material integrity, and longevity. Each piece, whether furniture, interior, or object, carries a quiet strength and an intuitive elegance that reflects both thoughtfulness and restraint.
Over the years, Space Copenhagen has crafted celebrated furniture for some of the world’s leading manufacturers. Their interiors span the globe, from award-winning hotels such as Toranomon Hotel in Tokyo, The Largo in Portugal, Schloss Schauenstein in Switzerland, to 11 Howard in New York.
A longstanding passion for designing extraordinary restaurants has led the studio to collaborate with many world-renowned Michelin-starred chefs, including projects for Andreas Caminada at Mammertsberg and Schloss Schauenstein in Switzerland, Le Pristine in Tokyo and Antwerp with Chef Sergio Hermann, Apotheose with Keita Kitamura in Tokyo, Cozinha das Flores in Porto with Chef Nuno Mendes, as well as the acclaimed Esmée, Geranium and the original Noma in Copenhagen.
Each project is approached as a holistic environment, where atmosphere, form, and experience are carefully balanced—spaces that are simultaneously functional, refined, and imbued with a quietly poetic presence.
